Let Dragons be Dragons

I have a reputation with some of my friends where they believe things just come to me or fall right into place. Once when my karate instructor's instructor was visiting from Florida we had a discussion about Qi Gung and how certain exercises will help your heart and others will cleanse your liver and so on... I was interested because I wanted to see if Qi Gung could help me with my ADD. I asked him, "How do you find a Qi Gung teacher? Do you look in the yellow pages? Do you need a referral form your doctor?... The very next day I went to a party that was for a little girl in my daughter's preschool class. I didn't know this group of moms and the only person I knew was the hostess. I walk into the party a little early, only a few people there and the hostess said"Oh , Teresa, here, meet my friend Donna, she's my Qi Gung teacher."Coincidence? I don't know, I didn't question it, I just went to her class the next day.

I recently read an article about how the universe will send you clues. So when you think about someone who you haven't seen in years then suddenly get a phone call from them, it's no accident. It's the universe giving you what you've asked for and the more you pay attention to these things the more you will find it happening. The sign from the universe that I should take this guy Paul seriously, was a Diet Coke. The second time I saw Paul it was at a party in Chalfont. I was living in Boston and he was living in New Jersey. People travelled from all over to be at this party. So the next morning there were still plenty of people sitting around the kitchen table hovering over their coffee cups. In walks Paul with a Diet Coke. Where did you get that? I asked? He fetched me one and the rest is history.

Before I hired Greensaw to do the construction on my house it was Jim from C2 Architecture who introduced Greensaw to me through Brendan. In meetings he would tell me about how they would use reclaimed lumber and take the time to line up the wood grain on the cabinets. He promised that they would bring something to the table that no other construction company would bring and that we should leave some elements up to them to play around with. At the same time he was in contact with Brendan from Greensaw selling him on the idea that we would be good clients for them. " She's an artist, she'll be open to ideas..." he would say. At one final meeting Jim said, I think Brendan does martial arts. I looked at Greensaw's website and read Brendan's blog all about the Friday fight nights. On my official visit into the Greensaw shop to sign the contract I asked Brendan, "So what's with the Friday night fights? Is it boxing?" Brendan replied, " I do a little MMA.". And I replied, "You mean like Muay Thai?" Immediately I saw his face light up.It was a look that said, "Oh, you know what I'm talking about!" I'm sure he wasn't expecting to hear those words come out of a middle aged stay at home mom. So to back it up I added, " Oh, I have a blue belt in BJJ." Really. He said, That's really hard to get." (He was still working on getting his.) and the rest is history. Another notable coincidence. Does Greensaw have that connection with all of their clients? I don't think so. Was it a sign that made me feel like I had made the right choice? Yes, it probably was.

Was it a surprise after Niko installed the mantle in the Family room he stepped back and asked, " Do you see the fire dragon?" I stepped back, took a look and there it was. In the wood grain starting from the left of the big piece of yellow pine, if you look closely, you'll see the eye, the nostril, the mouth and the flames of the fire dragon. Did Niko know that in American Kenpo, one of the other martial arts that I study, the dragon is a symbol of what we aspire to be? We make a fist with our left hand representing the tiger and we place our open hand , the dragon, on top of the tiger, showing mind over body. Coincidence? Nope, just another small gift from the universe.
